The Pakistan Airports Authority has successfully completed the installation and commissioning of a modern Doppler Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Range and Distance Measuring Equipment (DVOR/DME) at Dera Ismail Khan Airport, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the airport’s air navigation and operational capabilities.
The project was initiated in November 2024 to replace the existing conventional VOR (CVOR) system with an advanced navigation solution. The primary objective of this upgrade is to improve the accuracy of air navigation, strengthen operational efficiency, and enhance overall aviation safety.
The successful completion of the project reflects the professional expertise and dedicated efforts of the Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) team. Following installation, the newly deployed DVOR/DME underwent comprehensive flight inspection and calibration over a two-day period, which was completed successfully.
After successful calibration, the system has been formally commissioned and inducted into operational service.
The commissioning of the DVOR/DME at Dera Ismail Khan Airport underscores the Pakistan Airports Authority’s continued commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure and ensuring safe, efficient, and globally compliant air operations across the country.
