A Canadian airline has approached Pakistani authorities seeking approval to operate five weekly direct flights between Canada and Pakistan, a move that could significantly strengthen air connectivity, trade, tourism, and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The proposal marks a positive step in the evolving relationship between Pakistan and Canada and is expected to provide greater convenience for travelers, business professionals, students, and the large Pakistani diaspora living in Canada. If approved, the direct flights would reduce travel time, improve accessibility, and enhance opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, Muhammad Saleem, stated that the airline’s interest reflects the growing momentum in Pakistan–Canada relations following the recent visit of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand to Pakistan. He noted that diplomatic engagement between the two countries continues to expand across multiple sectors.

The High Commissioner also revealed that high-level Pakistani delegations are expected to visit Canada next year to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, education, and economic development. He emphasized that stronger engagement with the Pakistani community in Canada remains a key priority in fostering closer bilateral ties.

The proposed direct flights are expected to facilitate business travel, promote tourism, support family reunions, and encourage greater commercial collaboration between the two nations. Aviation experts believe enhanced connectivity could also contribute to increased trade and investment by making travel more efficient for entrepreneurs and investors.

If the necessary regulatory approvals are granted, the new route would represent another milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to expand international aviation connectivity and strengthen its global partnerships.
