COTHM’s Department of Employability & Career Services (DECS) recently conducted an interactive professional grooming workshop, “Knot to Success,” designed to help students strengthen their professional appearance, confidence and workplace readiness.

Led by Mr. Afaq Mudassar Butt, the session provided students with practical guidance on professional dressing and executive grooming. The workshop focused on the role of personal presentation in creating a confident and polished professional image.

During the session, students learned how to tie five classic tie knots through step-by-step demonstrations and practical participation. The activity enabled participants to understand different knot styles and how they can be incorporated into formal professional attire.

The workshop also explored the significance of tie colours in business settings, helping students understand how colour choices can contribute to professional presentation. Participants were further guided on selecting appropriate tie knots according to different shirt collar styles.

Beyond formal attire, the session highlighted everyday professional grooming practices and their role in developing executive confidence. Students were encouraged to pay attention to personal presentation, workplace etiquette and professional details that contribute to a positive first impression.

“Knot to Success” reflects COTHM’s focus on complementing academic and technical education with employability skills. Through DECS initiatives, students are provided with practical opportunities to develop the confidence, communication, grooming and professional behaviours needed to navigate modern workplaces.

The workshop concluded with active participation from students, reinforcing the idea that professional success involves not only technical expertise but also confidence, presentation and workplace readiness.
