COTHM Job Readiness Programme Highlights Industry Expectations and Work Ethics

COTHM Pakistan continued its Job Readiness Programme with an industry-focused session on Day 3, helping students understand workplace realities, employer expectations and the professional standards required to build careers in the hospitality sector.

The session featured Chef Shehroz Shafique, Corporate Chef at Second Cup, who shared industry insights to help students prepare for the demands of professional employment. Designated as the programme’s Industry Immersion Day, the activity aimed to bridge the gap between students’ career expectations and the practical requirements of working in hospitality.

Participants explored key workplace expectations, including commitment, punctuality, time management, flexibility and professional work ethics. Discussions also covered real working conditions, employer screening criteria and career growth timelines, giving students a clearer understanding of what employers look for when recruiting new professionals.

The session addressed the realities of shift-based employment, including working evenings, weekends and public holidays. Through the “A Day in My Shoes” activity, students discussed how hospitality professionals manage personal responsibilities alongside demanding work schedules.

The interactive session encouraged participants to consider the commitment and adaptability needed to succeed in a fast-paced industry. It also highlighted the importance of understanding workplace expectations before entering the job market.

By bringing industry perspectives into the learning environment, COTHM’s Job Readiness Programme seeks to strengthen students’ professional awareness and prepare them for the transition from education to employment.

The Day 3 activity reinforced the importance of combining technical skills with discipline, flexibility and a strong work ethic, helping students develop a more realistic understanding of hospitality careers and employer expectations.
