An awareness walk on high blood pressure was held at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh after Fajr prayers, where health experts emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Professor Dr. Kashif Ali Hashmi of Nishtar Hospital, addressing the participants, termed high blood pressure a “silent killer” that leads to diseases such as heart problems and diabetes. He underlined the significance of regular walking, a balanced diet, and avoiding fast food. Dr. Hashmi encouraged citizens to prefer home-cooked meals rich in vegetables with minimal salt intake and strongly advised against smoking. He also called on the government to ensure a healthy environment where people can walk freely.
Assistant Professor Imran Javed, Dr. Hamza Ghafoor, and Dr. Shehzad Khattak also addressed the gathering. They highlighted the excessive use of salt in meals and the rising trend of overeating and inactivity, which are contributing to obesity, diabetes, and heart complications.
Dr. Hashmi stressed that prevention is better than cure. Controlling blood pressure at an early stage can help avert several diseases. He warned that stress-induced blood pressure could cause serious health risks, including paralysis, and urged citizens to take preventive steps for a healthier life.
