COTHM Global makes history, earns prestigious Affiliate Membership of UN Tourism

In a proud and defining moment for Pakistan and the South Asian region, the College of Tourism & Hotel Management (COTHM) Global has officially been accepted as an Affiliate Member of UN Tourism — the United Nations’ specialized agency promoting responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism.

This landmark announcement, made during the 26th UN Tourism General Assembly held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marks a new chapter in Pakistan’s journey toward global integration in the tourism and hospitality education landscape.

At the prestigious event, COTHM Global Founder, President & CEO Ahmad Shafiq received the UN Tourism Affiliate Membership Certificate, symbolizing Pakistan’s formal inclusion among the world’s leading tourism and hospitality institutions. He was accompanied by Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Rana Aftab, representing Pakistan’s growing collaboration in global tourism forums.

“Becoming an Affiliate Member of UN Tourism is a transformative step for COTHM Global as it validates the quality of Pakistan’s hospitality education and opens international pathways for our students and partners. We look forward to working with UN Tourism and fellow Affiliate Members to champion sustainable tourism, skills development, and career pathways for youth across the region,” said Ahmad Shafiq, while attending the 26th UN Tourism General Assembly.

With this membership, COTHM Global joins a prestigious network of around 500 Affiliate Members worldwide, including approximately 124 education and research institutions, that contribute to shaping global tourism policies, education frameworks, and innovation.

COTHM Global’s inclusion will not only strengthen Pakistan’s representation in international tourism platforms but also pave the way for greater participation in UN Tourism’s global initiatives on sustainability, innovation, and human capital development.
