The College of Tourism and Hotel Management (COTHM) proudly welcomed internationally acclaimed chocolatier and Executive Pastry Chef Chef Dammika Herath for an exclusive session aimed at providing students with global exposure and preparing Pakistan’s youth to meet international culinary standards.
The distinguished guest received a grand red-carpet welcome led by COTHM CEO Ahmad Shafiq, COO Zaheer Ahmed, and CEO of Chocolate Academy Zainab Shafiq, who presented him with flowers.
COO COTHM Zaheer Ahmad escorted him on an extensive tour of COTHM and the Chocolate Academy. The hospitality showcased during the visit reflected COTHM’s commitment to excellence and international collaboration.
Chef Dammika Herath, an award-winning pastry perfectionist, has over two decades of experience in the global culinary industry. Originally from Sri Lanka, he began his career with a passion for culinary arts and pastry, constantly innovating in plated desserts, chocolates, artisanal bread, sugar masterpieces, and his signature Chocolate Hazelnut Cake.
His accolades include being a Food Olympic Medal Holder, winner of Best Pastry Chef UAE 2014, multiple gold medalist at the FHA Culinary Challenge Singapore 2018, and a decorated competitor at the Luxembourg Culinary World Cup 2018 & 2022, as well as the Culinary Olympics Germany 2024. He has earned over 45 national and international medals and serves as a WACS Junior Pastry Judge since 2019.
Currently, Chef Dammika oversees pastry operations for five luxury Pullman hotels in Dubai as Executive Pastry Chef and Pastry Committee Head at ECG, inspiring his team to innovate and deliver world-class culinary experiences. He has also completed advanced pastry courses across France, India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka, further cementing his reputation as a global pastry expert.
During his visit, Chef Dammika shared valuable insights into international pastry standards, creative dessert presentation, and global culinary trends. His session provided students with an unparalleled opportunity to learn from an industry leader and gain exposure to the expertise required to excel in the global hospitality sector.
