Kamran Lashari, former Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority, has emphasized that the revival of cultural festivals such as Basant requires a collective shift in mindset, viewing heritage not as a risk, but as a national asset.

Speaking on the role of culture in social development, he stated that happiness and hardship go hand in hand in every society, and nations progress when they choose to celebrate life, creativity, and tradition through structured and responsible cultural platforms.

Kamran Lashari highlighted that festivals are powerful tools for strengthening identity, promoting social harmony, and driving tourism. He noted that with proper planning, regulation, and institutional support, traditional events can be transformed into safe, sustainable, and economically beneficial cultural experiences.

He further stressed that Pakistan holds immense untapped potential in heritage-based tourism and cultural programming. According to him, investing in festivals, heritage zones, and cultural narratives can significantly enhance Pakistan’s image while contributing to local economies.

He concluded by stating that reviving cultural traditions in an organized manner is not merely about celebration, but about reclaiming national confidence and projecting Pakistan’s softer, richer identity to the world.
