LAHORE GETS GREEN BILLION BOOST: Mega Rs 4 Billion Tree Plantation Drive Approved

The Punjab government has approved a massive Rs 4 billion project to plant over 2.1 million trees across Lahore in a two-year mega-drive.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore is tasked with executing the Ring Road Forestation Plan, which aims to cover 1,711 acres and a 112-kilometer-long strip of land. Key locations targeted for plantation include areas along the PNAB, BRP, Bahara, Lahore Canal, Ravi, M-2 M-3, Allama Iqbal Road, and Kachi Road.

The project will see the planting of approximately 35,000 different types of indigenous and fruit-bearing trees, including Jaman, Kinar, Phulken, Jungli Jalebi, Neem Sharif, Morunga, and Guava, to enhance the city’s environment and provide shade.

To ensure the successful execution of this ambitious plan, the PHA will create a dedicated, separate operational wing equipped with its own officers, gardeners (mali), and machinery. The project will be managed by a large team, including 3 Project Directors, 13 Assistant Directors, 120 Supervisors, and 2,000 gardeners.

A separate component of the project also includes the introduction of 27 thousand fish hatchlings. The entire mega-project will be under the direct supervision and monitoring of the Chief  Minister.
