Munir Chopra, Director of Planning, Training, and Coordination at the Punjab Food Authority, emphasized the essential role of regulatory oversight in improving Pakistan’s food safety during a panel discussion hosted by the College of Tourism and Hotel Management (COTHM) on “Transforming Pakistan’s Food Safety to Meet International Standards.”
Addressing hospitality students, industry professionals, and stakeholders, Munir Chopra stressed that effective food safety depends on strong collaboration between regulators, food businesses, and educational institutions. He highlighted that clear policies, consistent enforcement, and professional training are key to raising national food safety standards.


“Effective food safety depends on collaboration between regulators, businesses, and educators. When these sectors work together, sustainable improvements become possible,” he said.
During the session, Chopra shared strategies for improving compliance mechanisms, developing training programs for food handlers, and promoting accountability throughout the food industry. He also emphasized aligning Pakistan’s regulatory frameworks with international standards to ensure consumer protection and strengthen the competitiveness of the food sector.
At the conclusion of the panel, Founder, President and CEO of COTHM, Ahmad Shafiq, presented Munir Chopra with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his valuable insights and commitment to advancing food safety and public health in Pakistan.
