The National Assembly yesterday unanimously passed a resolution urging the federal and provincial governments to take necessary steps to celebrate the 1500th Eid Milad-un-Nabi in a befitting manner. The resolution, moved by Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jillani, called for organizing Milad programmes at the highest level and illuminating both government and private buildings. It emphasized the importance of promoting the teachings of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wa Ala Alayhee Wassallam, Khatim-un-Nabiyeen.
The lawmakers also passed a resolution calling for the inclusion of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s historic address, delivered on 11 August 1947 to the first Constituent Assembly of Pakistan, into the national curriculum. The members passed the resolution in connection with National Minorities Day, which was moved by Naveed Aamir. In that address, the founder of Pakistan declared that “you are free to go to your temples, mosques, or any other places of worship in this country. You may belong to any religion, caste, or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State.”
Earlier, the government’s main allied partner (PPP) raised serious objections over the legislation moved by a ruling party member. PPP’s senior MNA Naveed Qamar, on a point of order, conveyed to the government to avoid legislation without taking the coalition partners into confidence. “We will not become part of this legislation,” he maintained. The chair, over the reservations by the PPP’s members, stopped further legislation in the House. Over a concern regarding electricity issues, the house was informed today that the government is working on a proposal for a Surplus Power Package for industrial and agricultural consumers in alignment with the Bijli Sahulat Package for the next three years.
Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, responding to a Question, during the Question Hour in the House, said an incremental consumption package aimed at providing discounted electricity rates on incremental usage is being developed. He said it is under consideration that Greenfield industries, including data centers and crypto mining operations, would benefit from the proposed package on their entire consumption, subject to specific terms and conditions. The minister said the proposed surplus power package will be available to all industries, including the export industry, on incremental consumption rates. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, responding to a call attention notice, said NDMA, in coordination with PDMAs, regularly organizes public awareness drives and provides timely updates, forecasts, and precautionary measures related to weather conditions, rainfall, and floods.
