PTDC Highlights Revival: Direct Islamabad & Lahore–London Flights to Reignite Pakistan’s Tourism Growth

The restoration of direct flights between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, particularly from Islamabad and Lahore to London, is being seen as a major boost for the country’s tourism sector. This was stated by Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC).

Welcoming the development, Rana emphasized that improved air connectivity with key international markets like the UK will significantly enhance accessibility for foreign tourists visiting Pakistan. This is especially important for the large Pakistani diaspora in the UK, as well as international travelers seeking authentic cultural and adventure experiences.

“Starting March 29, 2026, the resumption of direct flights to London after a six-year suspension marks a significant milestone for Pakistan’s tourism revival,” Rana said. “It will not only make travel more convenient but also help restore global confidence in Pakistan as a safe, vibrant, and welcoming tourist destination.”

He further highlighted the urgent need to expand direct air links with other global regions, including Europe, Central Asia, and the Far East, to strengthen Pakistan’s tourism economy and international outreach.

The United Kingdom remains a key source market for tourism to Pakistan. Enhanced connectivity between Islamabad, Lahore, and London is expected to increase tourist inflows, promote cultural and heritage tourism, and facilitate business and investment travel between the two countries.

Pakistan offers a unique tourism appeal, from the breathtaking mountain landscapes of the north to its rich archaeological heritage, diverse cultural traditions, and vibrant regional cuisines. With improved international access, the country is well-positioned to attract a broader global audience.

The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with public and private stakeholders to position Pakistan as a leading tourist destination while ensuring sustainable and responsible tourism practices.
