Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Calls for Full Preparedness to Combat Natural Disasters

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has emphasized the need for all relevant institutions to remain fully prepared to respond effectively to natural disasters to safeguard human lives.

In her special message on the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, she stated that while natural disasters cannot be completely avoided, their devastating impacts can be minimized through modern technology, institutional coordination, and timely preparedness. “With proactive measures, we can protect lives, property, and the environment from irreversible damage,” she said.

Reflecting on Punjab’s response to one of the most severe floods in its history, the Chief Minister highlighted that the provincial government executed comprehensive rescue, relief, evacuation, and rehabilitation operations. “Had there been no advance preparations, the human loss could have been catastrophic,” she added.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif further said that Punjab earned international recognition for saving hundreds of thousands of lives and protecting livestock during the recent flood crisis. She noted that timely interventions, such as setting up medical camps, played a key role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the flood-affected regions.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that all relevant departments of the Punjab government continue to work diligently to safeguard the public from floods, earthquakes, and other natural hazards. “Our commitment to the safety and well-being of every citizen of Punjab remains unwavering,” she concluded.
