Richard Sprenger, Chairman of Highfield UK, joined the College of Tourism and Hotel Management (COTHM) panel discussion on “Transforming Pakistan’s Food Safety to Meet International Standards” and shared his international perspective on improving food safety practices in Pakistan.
Participating online, Sprenger highlighted the importance of professional training and certification, and of fostering a culture of responsibility in the food industry. He emphasized that food safety goes beyond regulatory compliance and requires a mindset of accountability at every level of the production and hospitality chain.
“Food safety is not just about regulations; it is about building a culture of responsibility. When food handlers are properly trained and certified, the entire industry benefits,” he said.

During the discussion, Sprenger provided insights on implementing international best practices, enhancing staff training programs, and strengthening food safety management systems. He also stressed the value of continuous improvement and collaboration between global and local stakeholders to elevate Pakistan’s food safety standards.
At the conclusion of the session, Founder, President and CEO of COTHM, Ahmad Shafiq, presented Richard Sprenger with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his valuable time, expert insights, and contribution to the panel discussion, highlighting COTHM’s commitment to bridging local industry practices with international standards.
