COTHM Job Readiness Programme Builds Students’ Communication and Confidence

COTHM Pakistan continued its Job Readiness Programme with an interactive Day 2 session focused on communication, body language, confidence and public speaking, helping students develop essential interpersonal skills for professional hospitality environments.

The session highlighted the importance of effective communication in the hospitality industry, where the way professionals speak, listen, stand, interact and respond can directly influence guest experiences and workplace relationships.

During the activities, students practised guest-service conversations in English to strengthen their spoken communication and prepare for real workplace interactions. They also explored effective and ineffective body language, learning how posture, gestures, eye contact and facial expressions can influence professional communication.

To build confidence and reduce hesitation, participants delivered 30–60-second self-introductions and took part in spontaneous one-minute speaking activities. These exercises encouraged students to organise their thoughts, express themselves clearly and communicate confidently in front of others.

The practical approach gave students opportunities to identify areas for improvement and develop greater awareness of their verbal and non-verbal communication. The activities also reinforced the role of active listening, clarity and professional conduct in guest service and teamwork.

The session forms part of COTHM’s broader Job Readiness Programme, which aims to prepare students for the transition from education to employment by strengthening workplace skills alongside their technical training.

Through interactive learning and practical exercises, Day 2 encouraged participants to overcome communication barriers and develop the confidence needed to engage with guests, colleagues and employers in professional settings.
