In the ever-evolving food scene of Lahore, it’s always a challenge to find a new and unique dining experience, especially after having tried almost all the prominent eateries the city has to offer. With a desire to try something different, I decided to venture into KAI, a restaurant specializing in Nikkei cuisine—a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian culinary traditions. Located at Airlink Tower, 104 B1 MM Alam Road, Gulberg III, Lahore, KAI promises not just a meal, but an exquisite dining experience.
First Impressions and Ambiance
Upon arrival, I was pleased to find valet parking, a convenience that is always appreciated in the bustling area of MM Alam Road. The restaurant’s location in the heart of Lahore’s gastronomic district makes it easily accessible for locals and tourists alike. The moment we stepped inside, the ambiance immediately set the tone for what would be a remarkable dining experience. The staff, from the very beginning, were exceptionally courteous and attentive, adding a layer of warmth to the already inviting environment.
The Culinary Journey
Our culinary journey at KAI began with a selection of appetizers, each one a delightful introduction to the fusion of flavors that awaited us:
Starters
Rock Shrimp: Lightly fried and crispy, the rock shrimp was full of flavor with a nice balance between its crunchy texture and a slightly tangy taste.
Sushi Roll: Fresh and well-made, the sushi roll gave a true taste of Japanese cuisine, with a simple, clean, and rich flavor.
Crunchy Maki: True to its name, the crunchy maki had a satisfying crunch that went perfectly with the fresh ingredients inside.
For the main course, we experienced a mix of Teppanyaki-style cooking and traditional Asian flavors:
Chicken Teppanyaki: The chicken was cooked perfectly—soft, juicy, and full of flavor. The green garnish on the plate made it so colourful. It was deliciously perfect.
Sichuan Chicken: Spicy and full of flavor, this dish had just the right amount of kick. The egg rice on the side helped balance the heat, making it a great combo.
Egg Rice: Simple but good, the egg rice went well with both the Sichuan chicken and the teppanyaki, letting their flavors really stand out.
Desserts – The Sweet Finale
No meal is complete without dessert, and KAI didn’t disappoint. We went for the Tres Leches with Salted Caramel, a rich and creamy cake. The sweet flavor with a hint of salted caramel made it the perfect way to end our meal.
Service and Overall Experience
The service at KAI was excellent. From the moment we walked in until we left, the staff were helpful without being overbearing. Each dish was served at a good pace, so we had time to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. The care they put into the food presentation and the cozy atmosphere made the experience memorable.
