Pakistan’s seafood industry has achieved a historic milestone, with seafood exports reaching a record US$568 million during FY2025-26, marking the highest annual export earnings in the country’s fisheries sector.
According to official reports, frozen fish remained Pakistan’s leading seafood export, while squid, cuttlefish, fish meal, shrimp, and crabs also made significant contributions to the record-breaking performance. The strong export figures reflect growing international demand for Pakistani seafood products and the sector’s increasing competitiveness in global markets.
Pakistan’s seafood exports reached a diverse range of international destinations, including China, Thailand, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, further strengthening the country’s position in the global fisheries trade.
Government officials attributed the record achievement to improved quality standards, enhanced regulatory compliance, better processing practices, and the resilience of exporters, who successfully maintained supply chains despite regional trade and shipping disruptions.
The milestone is expected to provide a significant boost to Pakistan’s fisheries industry by generating higher export revenues, supporting coastal communities, creating employment opportunities, and contributing valuable foreign exchange to the national economy.
Experts believe the achievement highlights the growing potential of Pakistan’s blue economy and underscores the importance of continued investment in sustainable fisheries, seafood processing, cold chain infrastructure, and international market development.
With increasing global demand for high-quality seafood products, officials remain optimistic that Pakistan’s fisheries sector will continue to expand its presence in international markets while supporting long-term economic growth.
