Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has laid the foundation stones for two road-interchanges projects at Jinnah Avenue-Ninth Avenue and Serena-Convention Center intersections to ease traffic congestion on the main arteries of the federal capital.
The prime minister, who unveiled the plaques for both mega road projects valued over Rs 8 billion, emphasized the swift completion of the work and believed that the projects would usher in an era of progress and prosperity for the residents of Islamabad and its suburbs.
Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister said what was initially planned to be completed in six months will now be completed in just 100 days. The Serena Chowk project will be finalized in 60 days.
He also extended his felicitations to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for his leadership in executing key projects.

KP Govt finalizes ‘Maizban’ tourism promotion project
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has finalized ‘Maizban’ a homestay project to promote tourism in the province. The project will be finally launched on December 15, 2025.
Initially, the project would be launched at a cost of Rs. 395 million, providing interest-free loans of up to Rs. 3 million to local house owners in tourists’ attractive districts to offer quality accommodation facilities to tourists.
The decision was made in a meeting of the Tourism Department, held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat with Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur in the chair.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed various aspects of project implementation and made important decisions to this effect.
The meeting decided that locals interested in providing accommodation to tourists within their premises would either build at least two new rooms or renovate existing ones as per standard set by the department.
Governor KP meets former Maldives president, discusses tourism, education
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi met with former President of Maldives, Muhammad Waheed Hassan, and Professor Rohan Gunaratna after the closing ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Global Religions held at Minhaj University Lahore.
The meeting was attended by Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, the Chief Organizer of Minhaj-ul-Quran International.
During the meeting, Governor Kundi emphasized the importance of cooperation between Pakistan and Maldives in the fields of tourism and education.
The Governor highlighted the vast tourism potential in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which includes religious, cultural, recreational, and adventure tourism.
The discussion noted that tourism plays a crucial role in the Maldivian economy and that both countries could benefit from collaboration in this sector by leveraging Pakistan’s tourist resources.

Pakistan’s national flag carrier, PIA, is now available for sale, while a Saudi Airline has applied for government’s approval to launch international operations from Pakistan.
Sources report that Flyadeal has applied to the Ministry of Aviation to operate direct flights from Pakistan’s airports to Saudi Arabia’s destinations. Saudi Arabia’s official airline, Saudia, already offers direct flights from Pakistan.
According to sources, the arrival of a new airline could generate additional job opportunities within the country.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan’s national airlines PIA is currently accepting bids for purchase. In the given circumstances, the announcement from a Saudi airlines to operate direct flights to Pakistan and vice versa is a welcoming gesture.

Lahore’s environmental department has imposed tighter restrictions on open-air BBQ restaurants, issuing new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at reducing smog.
Open BBQ setups at restaurants in Lahore have been identified as a significant source of the city’s worsening smog levels. To address this, the Punjab Environmental Protection Department has introduced SOPs mandating stricter pollution control measures for these establishments.
Imran Hameed, Director General of the Environmental Protection Department Punjab, stated that restaurants with open BBQs are now required to install proper chimneys and exhaust systems to manage smoke emissions. Additionally, BBQ hoods must be equipped with filters to reduce smoke effectively, and the use of wet showering systems at BBQ sites is now mandatory to further decrease air pollution.
These new regulations will be in effect from November 20 to January 31, 2025.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given a great responsibility by appointing me as the head of the Religious Tourism Committee to better showcase Pakistan’s historical and religious sites to the world and attract international tourists.
These views were expressed by Provincial Minister for Religious Minorities Ramesh Singh Arora during a meeting with a delegation led by Honorary Consul General of Sri Lanka in Lahore, Yasin Joyia, at his camp.
During the meeting, discussions were held on improving religious tourism in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, focusing on security arrangements and the provision of facilities. Yasin Joya suggested utilizing Information Technology (IT) to promote religious tourism, ensuring tourists have access to essential information. Additionally, he emphasized enhancing security measures at airports to restore tourists’ confidence.
