In a major step toward youth empowerment and sustainable transportation, the Punjab government has proposed an interest-free e-bike and e-taxi scheme aimed at creating employment opportunities and encouraging eco-friendly mobility across the province.
The initiative is designed to provide students, job seekers, and unemployed individuals with affordable access to electric vehicles through easy, interest-free installment plans. By reducing financial barriers, the scheme seeks to help young people improve mobility, pursue education and employment opportunities, and generate income through self-employment.
Officials stated that the proposed program aligns with the government’s broader vision of promoting green energy solutions, reducing environmental pollution, and modernizing urban transportation systems. The introduction of electric vehicles is expected to contribute to cleaner cities and lower carbon emissions while supporting the transition toward sustainable transport.
The e-taxi component of the scheme is particularly aimed at creating new earning opportunities for young entrepreneurs by enabling them to enter the transport and ride-hailing sectors with reduced financial burden. Meanwhile, the e-bike initiative is expected to benefit students and daily commuters by providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation options.
Authorities believe the project has the potential to create thousands of jobs, encourage self-reliance, and strengthen economic participation among youth while advancing Punjab’s sustainable development goals.
If implemented, the initiative could become a significant milestone in combining economic empowerment, technological innovation, and environmental responsibility to shape a more inclusive and modern transport ecosystem in the province.
