Punjab to Establish 650 Daycare Centers Under Rs1 Billion Initiative to Empower Working Women

In a major step toward supporting working women and improving early childhood care, the Punjab government has announced plans to establish 650 daycare centers across the province by the next fiscal year. The initiative is being implemented under a Rs1 billion program launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aimed at creating a more inclusive and family-friendly environment for women in the workforce.

According to official details, 350 daycare centers are already operational, while 40 additional facilities are nearing completion. The remaining centers will be set up in strategic locations, including hospitals, schools, and government offices, ensuring greater accessibility for working parents.

The program seeks to provide safe, secure, and nurturing childcare services, enabling mothers to pursue their professional responsibilities with greater peace of mind. Each center will be staffed by trained childcare professionals and equipped with age-appropriate educational and developmental activities designed to support children’s learning and well-being.

To maintain high standards of service delivery, the government has introduced a comprehensive monitoring and quality assurance system. This mechanism will oversee operations, ensure transparency, and uphold the quality of care provided at the facilities.

A key feature of the initiative is its focus on underserved communities. Special priority has been given to South Punjab and remote regions, where access to childcare services remains limited. The daycare network will also be expanded to include Danish Schools and other major public institutions, extending the program’s reach to a broader segment of society.

The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to strengthening social welfare, promoting women’s participation in the workforce, and investing in the development of future generations through accessible and quality early childhood care services.
