Pakistan has achieved another milestone in international science education, with its young physicists winning three Bronze Medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026, held in Colombia.
Representing Pakistan among the world’s brightest young minds, Zulfiqar Ali, Ali Hamdan Alvi, and Daniyal Shahzad Hamid secured Bronze Medals, while Hazza Mahmood and Abdullah Ejaz received Honorable Mentions for their outstanding performances.
The prestigious Olympiad brought together more than 400 students from over 90 countries, providing a highly competitive platform for the world’s top secondary school physics students to demonstrate their scientific knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Pakistan’s success follows a rigorous national selection process and intensive academic training conducted under the STEM Careers Program, jointly led by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). The program is designed to identify and nurture exceptionally talented students, preparing them to compete at the highest international level.
The remarkable achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the students, their mentors, educators, and supporting institutions, while highlighting Pakistan’s growing strength in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
Education experts have described the accomplishment as an encouraging sign of the country’s emerging scientific talent and emphasized the importance of continued investment in STEM education to prepare future innovators, researchers, and global leaders.
The success of the Pakistani team at the International Physics Olympiad serves as an inspiration for students across the country and reinforces Pakistan’s growing presence in international academic competitions.
