Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the restoration of lifetime family pension benefits for the widows and unmarried daughters of deceased government employees, providing long-term financial security to thousands of affected families across the province.
The Punjab Finance Department has issued an official notification implementing the revised pension policy, reversing the previous rule that limited family pension payments to 10 years.
Under the new policy, eligible widows and unmarried daughters will continue to receive pension benefits for life. However, a widow’s pension entitlement will cease upon remarriage, in accordance with the revised rules.
The notification further states that if a deceased government employee leaves behind more than one widow, the family pension will be distributed equally among all eligible beneficiaries.
Officials said the revised policy is aimed at strengthening the social welfare system by ensuring sustained financial assistance for families who have lost their primary breadwinner. The move is expected to ease financial hardships and provide greater economic stability for surviving dependents.
The restoration of lifetime pension benefits reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to improving employee welfare and enhancing social protection for the families of public servants.
