King Willem, Queen Máxima join school kids at cheerful King’s Games event

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands brought smiles and energy to primary school KPO De Vlindertuin in Roosendaal as they launched the annual King’s Games on Thursday, April 17.

In a heartwarming video shared by the Dutch Royal Family on Instagram, the King and Queen were seen actively participating in a range of fun-filled sports and games with enthusiastic schoolchildren. From tug of war and football to cycling and racing, the royal couple joined in the excitement, encouraging kids to stay active and healthy.

The day began with the traditional King’s breakfast, followed by the official national opening of the King’s Games, led by the royal couple themselves. They continued their visit by engaging in various sporting activities with the children.

This year’s theme, “Give the King’s Games a TWIST!”, encourages children to come up with creative ways—whether serious or silly—to make physical activity even more enjoyable.

Held annually in the week leading up to King Willem-Alexander’s birthday on April 27, the King’s Games aim to promote physical fitness, healthy eating, and fun among Dutch primary school students.
