A 45-day lifestyle intervention conducted through the Wellness Centre by Academy of Wellness, Nutrition and Food Safety has highlighted the potential benefits of personalized dietary therapy combined with regular physical activity in improving metabolic health among chefs.
The initiative, led by Dr. Zaryab Khalid, focused on chefs experiencing abnormal lipid profiles, elevated body weight, Grade I fatty liver, and increased liver enzyme levels. Unhealthy dietary habits and sedentary lifestyles can contribute to metabolic concerns, making personalized nutrition and physical activity important components of lifestyle management.

A total of 30 chefs participated in the intervention and received individualized dietary therapy based on their nutritional and metabolic requirements. The program also incorporated regular physical activity to support improvements in overall health, body composition, and metabolic wellbeing.
Out of the 30 participants, 25 completed the follow-up, including 18 participants who demonstrated good adherence to the recommended lifestyle plan.
Among participants with good adherence, the findings showed encouraging improvements in several health indicators. LDL and VLDL levels decreased, while HDL levels increased by approximately 13 percent. Improvements were also observed in liver health, with ALT and AST levels decreasing by approximately 19 percent among adherent participants.

Most participants also demonstrated improvement in Grade I fatty liver, while favourable changes in body weight and body composition were observed during the intervention period.
The findings highlight the importance of moving beyond generalized dietary recommendations and recognizing the potential value of personalized nutrition. Individualized dietary plans can consider a person’s nutritional requirements, lifestyle, metabolic condition, and health goals, allowing for a more focused approach to lifestyle improvement.
Regular physical activity was another important component of the intervention. The combination of appropriate dietary changes and an active lifestyle supported participants in working toward improved metabolic health and overall wellbeing.
Dr. Zaryab Khalid emphasized the importance of sustainable lifestyle changes and individualized approaches to nutrition and wellness. The intervention demonstrated that consistent adherence to personalized dietary guidance and regular physical activity may contribute to meaningful improvements in lipid profiles, liver health, body composition, and metabolic wellbeing.
