PIA Set to Expand UK Operations as Turkish Airlines Returns Heathrow Slots

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is poised to expand its flight operations to the United Kingdom after Turkish Airlines returned 14 weekly landing and takeoff slots at London’s Heathrow Airport, creating new opportunities for the national carrier to strengthen its international network.

According to reports, the availability of the additional slots is expected to support PIA’s plans to increase flight frequencies and improve connectivity between Pakistan and the UK, subject to the completion of the necessary regulatory approvals and slot allocation procedures.

Industry experts believe the expanded operations would benefit thousands of passengers, particularly the large Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom, by providing greater travel convenience, increased seat availability, and more flexible flight schedules.

The potential expansion also aligns with PIA’s broader strategy to rebuild and strengthen its international presence following the resumption of key overseas routes. Enhanced connectivity with the UK is expected to support tourism, business travel, family reunions, and trade between the two countries.

Officials say increased services to one of PIA’s most important international markets could further improve the airline’s commercial performance while contributing to Pakistan’s aviation and tourism sectors.

If finalized, the additional Heathrow slots would mark another positive milestone in PIA’s efforts to expand its global operations and offer improved travel options for passengers flying between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
