Punjab Allocates Funds for Landmark Rawalpindi–Murree Glass Train Project

The Punjab government has taken a significant step toward modernizing tourism infrastructure by allocating Rs. 49 million for the proposed Rawalpindi–Murree Glass Train project under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026–27. The allocation marks the beginning of a landmark initiative designed to enhance travel and tourism in one of Pakistan’s most popular hill destinations.

With an estimated total project cost of Rs. 117 billion, the proposed glass train aims to provide passengers with a world-class travel experience while strengthening connectivity between Rawalpindi and Murree. The project is expected to combine modern rail transportation with panoramic glass coaches, allowing travelers to enjoy uninterrupted views of the region’s lush forests, rolling hills, and picturesque mountain landscapes.

Officials believe the initiative will not only improve accessibility to Murree but also position the hill station as a more attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists. By offering a safe, comfortable, and scenic alternative to road travel, the project is expected to reduce traffic congestion during peak tourist seasons while enhancing the overall visitor experience.

The glass train is also anticipated to generate significant economic benefits by boosting tourism-related businesses, creating employment opportunities, and encouraging investment in hospitality, transport, and local infrastructure along the route.

The project forms part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to modernize transportation, promote sustainable tourism, and develop high-quality infrastructure that supports long-term economic growth. Once completed, the Rawalpindi–Murree Glass Train could become one of Pakistan’s most iconic tourism attractions, offering visitors a unique journey through the country’s breathtaking northern landscapes.
