The Punjab government has officially launched the “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” programme, a landmark initiative aimed at empowering 30,000 landless families by providing them with access to agricultural land and financial assistance to improve their livelihoods.
Under the programme, 121,000 acres of state-owned cultivable land will be leased to eligible families on a long-term basis for a nominal annual rent of just Rs. 100. In addition to the land allotment, each beneficiary family will receive Rs. 200,000 in financial assistance to help them begin farming and establish sustainable sources of income.
Officials said the initiative is designed to promote agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, and create new economic opportunities for deserving families who previously had no access to farmland. By enabling beneficiaries to cultivate their own land, the programme is expected to strengthen food production, enhance self-reliance, and improve the overall welfare of farming communities.
According to the government, the selection process was conducted entirely on merit to ensure transparency and fairness. Allotment letters are expected to be issued within a week, while beneficiaries are scheduled to take possession of their allocated land by July 31.
The “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” programme forms part of the Punjab government’s broader agricultural reform agenda, which includes initiatives such as the Kisan Card, interest-free agricultural loans, and mechanization support aimed at modernizing agriculture and improving farmers’ incomes.
Officials believe the initiative will not only transform the lives of thousands of landless families but also contribute to increased agricultural productivity, rural development, and long-term economic growth across the province.
