On 3rd, 4th and 5th December, Karachi witnessed its biggest culinary competition ‘FOOD CHAMP’ with the collaboration of Badar Expo solution in 1st Pakistan Hospitality Show at Expo Center Karachi, organised by College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (COTHM), Karachi campus.
The three days cooking competition featured a unique format of culinary delights, ranging from Modern Continental Cuisine to Modern Pakistani Cuisine. The other major categories included Chicken Practical Cookery, Sea-food Practical Cookery, Pasta Dish, Cocktails and Cake Decoration.
Not just COTHM students but culinary students from other culinary institutes such as: Skills Valley, Skillston, SSAT Institute of Hotel Management & Culinary Arts and POTHM (Professional Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management), participated to showcase their skills of cooking, in front of the judges from the culinary industry.
To encourage the interest and polish the cooking skills of the younger generation, local schools and colleges were also invited to compete and exhibit their raw skills. Moreover, for the first time, an individual category of housewives and kids was also introduced in this competition which proved that it was an exceptional platform for everyone who loved to cook with artistic presentation and unforgettable taste.
One complete slot was reserved for the competition among industry professionals in which the professional chefs from Pearl Continental Hotel, Avari Towers, Marriot Hotel, Beach Luxury Hotel and Ramada Hotel, honored the stations with their mastery skills of cooking and decoration.
On the third day of the competition, the hall of the crowded culinary festival was visited by Khairul Nazran (The Honorary Malaysian Ambassador), Iftikhar Ali Sherwani (Commissioner, Karachi), Ather Bhutto (General Manager, Embassy Inn), Azeem Qureshi (General Manager, Beach Luxury Hotel) and Faizan Rawat (CEO, Pizza Point). The respected guests appreciated the zeal of competitors and the idea of COTHM, Karachi to expand the horizon of cooking industry.
The competition ended up with the Award Distribution Ceremony, distributing the gold, silver and bronze medals to the winning participants. Moreover, honorary membership of Chef’s Association Pakistanm (CAP) and certificates of appreciation were also presented to all the participants as their red-letter day.
COTHM Karachi Director Sabir Ahmed said, “It was an initiative by COTHM to promote the underrated culinary industry in Karachi and encourage the aspiring chefs to become professionals in local and international food industry.”
