Hospitality and tourism expert Fayaz Ahmad has called for the revival of Basant in a regulated and responsible manner, emphasizing that the festival represents a deeply rooted cultural legacy that should be restored rather than permanently banned.
Speaking on the importance of cultural heritage in tourism development, he stated that Basant has historically been one of Pakistan’s most recognizable cultural expressions and a major attraction for both local communities and international visitors. He stressed that banning such traditions erodes cultural continuity, while thoughtful regulation preserves heritage and ensures public safety.
Fayaz Ahmad highlighted that a well-managed Basant could significantly contribute to cultural tourism, urban branding, and seasonal tourism flows, benefiting hotels, restaurants, transport services, artisans, and event management sectors.
He further noted that reviving Basant through structured policies, safety protocols, and stakeholder collaboration would allow Pakistan to reclaim an important cultural asset while aligning it with modern tourism standards.
He concluded by asserting that Pakistan must move from prohibition to professional management if it wishes to transform cultural traditions into sustainable tourism drivers and meaningful national soft power.
