UK Introduces eVisas for Pakistani Visitors, Making Travel Faster and More Convenient

In a major step towards modernizing its immigration system, the United Kingdom has introduced eVisas for Pakistani visitors, eliminating the need for applicants to submit their passports after completing the biometric process.

Under the new system, travelers applying for a UK visit visa will continue to submit their applications online and visit a visa application centre to provide their biometrics. However, once the biometrics are completed, applicants will no longer need to return to the centre to collect their passport with a visa sticker. Instead, successful applicants will receive a digital immigration status known as an eVisa, which will be accessible through their personal UK Visas and Immigration online account.

The move is expected to significantly simplify the visa process for Pakistanis travelling to the UK for tourism, family visits, or business meetings. With the digital system in place, applicants can keep their passports after the biometric appointment, saving both time and unnecessary travel.

The eVisa system also introduces a share code feature, allowing visa holders to easily prove their immigration status at UK borders and in other official situations. Authorities say the digital format will reduce the risks associated with lost, stolen, or damaged visa documents, making the process more secure and efficient.

Importantly, the UK government clarified that there are no changes to visa processing times, eligibility requirements, or visa conditions as part of this transition.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, described the move as an important improvement for Pakistani travelers.

“This is a hugely exciting step for Pakistanis visiting the UK for tourism, visiting loved ones, or business meetings, that removes a big step from the application process. As well as being able to save time by holding on to your passport, the new share code system makes it easier than ever to demonstrate your visa status,” she said.

Officials also advised applicants to avoid visa agents and apply directly through the official UK government website, stressing that gov.uk remains the only reliable source of visa information and applications.

The eVisa system has already been successfully implemented for students and work visa holders worldwide, with thousands of travelers using it at UK airports over the past year. Authorities confirmed that existing visa stickers will remain valid and are not affected by the new changes.

The introduction of eVisas marks another step in the UK’s broader plan to move towards a fully digital immigration system, aimed at making travel documentation safer, faster, and more convenient for international visitors.
