Spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslim community and its 50th Imam, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday for his first official six-day visit, according to government officials.
During his visit, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V met with the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, at the President’s House Islamabad, where matters of mutual interest were discussed.
The visit has been made at the invitation of the Government of Pakistan and will continue from May 20 to May 26. Authorities have granted the dignitary state guest status, reflecting the significance of the visit in terms of cultural, spiritual, and community relations.
During the tour, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V is expected to visit several regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Hunza, Gilgit city, Gahkuch Bala, Taus Yasin, and Ishkoman, where public gatherings and ceremonial events are planned.
Local administrations and federal authorities have mobilized extensive arrangements to manage logistics, security, and public participation. Large gatherings are expected at key locations such as Passu Cones in Hunza, prompting considerations for multiple sessions to accommodate attendees.
Security and infrastructure preparations include requests for enhanced transport arrangements, deployment of law enforcement agencies, road maintenance by the Frontier Works Organization, and traffic management along the Karakoram Highway. The National Highway Authority has also been placed on alert, while uninterrupted power supply measures are being ensured in upper regions to facilitate smooth conduct of events.
Officials have described the visit as an important occasion expected to strengthen community engagement, cultural understanding, and regional connectivity in northern Pakistan.
