The College of Tourism and Hotel Management (COTHM) and Papa Johns have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a step towards strengthening collaboration between hospitality education and the food service industry.
Spearheaded by COTHM’s Department of Employability & Career Services (DECS), the partnership aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace requirements by equipping students with practical, market-relevant skills. The collaboration also seeks to connect Papa Johns with emerging talent trained in culinary arts, food service and hospitality operations.

The partnership reflects the growing importance of industry engagement in preparing students for the demands of a competitive employment market. In the food service sector, employers increasingly value professionals who combine technical knowledge with operational efficiency, teamwork, communication skills and an understanding of customer expectations.

Through industry-academia collaboration, students can gain greater exposure to professional standards, workplace practices and the expectations of employers. Engagement with industry professionals also provides opportunities to understand real-world operational challenges and develop the competencies needed for successful careers.
COTHM’s Department of Employability & Career Services plays an important role in connecting students with employers and supporting their transition from education to employment. By facilitating partnerships with established food service brands, DECS aims to strengthen employability and create pathways for students to apply their training in professional environments.

The collaboration also highlights the value of knowledge-sharing between educational institutions and industry partners. Mentorship, practical learning opportunities and exposure to workplace expectations can help students develop greater confidence and prepare for future responsibilities across restaurants, quick-service restaurants, hotels and other hospitality businesses.
COTHM expressed its appreciation to the Papa Johns team for contributing time, mentorship and resources towards helping students understand industry practices and professional standards.

The MoU underscores the shared commitment of both organisations to supporting talent development and strengthening the connection between education and employment. By bringing academic preparation closer to industry needs, the partnership aims to contribute to a skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the culinary and hospitality sectors.

Through continued engagement with industry partners, COTHM seeks to empower students with the knowledge, practical abilities and professional confidence needed to pursue rewarding careers.
The collaboration between COTHM and Papa Johns reinforces the importance of industry partnerships in developing skilled talent and shaping the future of hospitality education.
