Punjab Expands Green Bus Service to Six More Districts in Major Public Transport Boost

In a significant step toward modernizing Punjab’s public transportation system, the provincial government has expanded its Green Bus Service to six additional districts, bringing affordable, eco-friendly, and comfortable travel facilities to thousands of commuters.

Under the latest phase of the initiative, the Green Bus Service has been launched in Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal, and Khushab, extending the reach of Punjab’s growing electric public transport network to more urban and semi-urban communities.

The newly introduced fleet consists of modern, air-conditioned electric buses designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and environmentally sustainable mode of transportation. To ensure affordability for all citizens, the government has fixed the fare at just Rs. 20 per ride, making quality public transport accessible to students, office workers, women, senior citizens, and daily commuters.

Officials stated that the expansion is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to develop a modern transport system that reduces traffic congestion, lowers fuel consumption, and minimizes environmental pollution through the adoption of clean electric mobility solutions.

The Green Bus Service has been designed with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusivity. Authorities believe the initiative will particularly benefit women, students, and working professionals by providing reliable, secure, and affordable transportation for education, employment, and daily travel.

Beyond improving commuter convenience, the electric bus network is expected to play an important role in reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality, supporting Pakistan’s broader environmental sustainability and climate action goals.

The Punjab government has also unveiled an ambitious roadmap for the future expansion of the service. According to officials, the province plans to deploy 1,100 electric buses during the current year, while the fleet is expected to grow to 5,000 electric buses within the next three years.

In the long term, the government aims to extend the Green Bus Service beyond major cities to tehsil-level towns, ensuring that residents across Punjab have access to modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly public transportation.

Officials believe the large-scale expansion will not only improve mobility but also stimulate economic activity by making travel easier, reducing transportation costs, and supporting sustainable urban development throughout the province.

The Green Bus Service reflects Punjab’s commitment to investing in smart infrastructure, clean energy, and people-centered development. As the network continues to expand, the initiative is expected to transform public transportation while positioning Punjab as a leader in sustainable mobility and modern urban transit in Pakistan.
