Punjab’s First Air Ambulance Service Crosses 300 Life-Saving Missions

Punjab has marked a historic achievement in emergency healthcare as the province’s first modern Air Ambulance Service has successfully saved the lives of more than 300 critically ill and injured patients, setting a new benchmark for rapid medical response and emergency care in Pakistan.

Launched under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the pioneering initiative is transforming emergency healthcare by providing swift air transportation for patients in remote and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring they receive specialized treatment within the vital “Golden Hour” when immediate medical intervention can make the difference between life and death.

The service has become a lifeline for residents of geographically distant districts, including Rajanpur, Mianwali, and Rahim Yar Khan, where lengthy road journeys often delay access to advanced healthcare facilities. Through the air ambulance programme, critically ill patients are rapidly transferred to leading hospitals equipped with specialized emergency and trauma care.

Operated by Rescue 1122, the helicopters are staffed by highly trained emergency physicians, paramedics, and rescue professionals who provide continuous medical care throughout the journey. Each aircraft is equipped with advanced life-support systems, emergency medical equipment, and critical care technology, enabling medical teams to stabilize patients before they reach hospital.

A key feature of the programme is that the air ambulance service is provided entirely free of cost, ensuring that patients receive lifesaving emergency transportation regardless of their financial circumstances. The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to every citizen, particularly those living in underserved and rural communities.

Health officials say the service has significantly strengthened Punjab’s emergency response system by reducing transport times, improving survival rates, and expanding access to advanced medical treatment in areas where specialized healthcare was previously difficult to reach.

The success of the programme is widely regarded as a milestone in Pakistan’s healthcare sector and demonstrates the growing importance of modern emergency medical services in protecting lives. Experts believe the initiative has the potential to serve as a model for other provinces seeking to enhance emergency healthcare and disaster response capabilities.

As Punjab continues to invest in innovative healthcare solutions, the Air Ambulance Service stands as a symbol of progress, compassion, and the province’s commitment to delivering timely, high-quality medical care to those who need it most.
