COTHM Students Begin Career Development Programme with Grooming and Career Planning Session

COTHM Students Begin Career Development Programme with Grooming and Career Planning Session

COTHM Pakistan launched the first day of its career development programme with a focused session on Grooming and Career Planning, designed to equip students with the professional presentation, communication, career planning, and employability skills required to succeed in the hospitality industry.

The opening session was led by the Placement Team, which introduced students to professional grooming standards for both Front-of-House and Back-of-House roles. Through a live before-and-after grooming correction demonstration, students were shown how personal presentation, professional appearance, hygiene, and workplace readiness can influence their performance and first impression in hospitality environments.

Turning Career Goals into a Roadmap

The session also encouraged students to take a structured approach to their professional future. Participants developed their own 1-, 3-, and 5-year career roadmaps, identifying career goals, milestones, skills, and professional development priorities.

The activity helped students move beyond general career aspirations and begin thinking strategically about the steps required to progress from entry-level positions to long-term professional roles.

Learning Through Practical Role Play

To strengthen communication and guest-handling skills, students participated in a “Guest Greeting Relay” role-play activity. The exercise provided an interactive environment where participants practiced welcoming guests, professional communication, confidence, and appropriate hospitality etiquette.

Such practical activities allow students to experience real workplace situations while developing the interpersonal skills that are essential across hotels, restaurants, tourism businesses, and other hospitality operations.

Building Stronger Professional CVs

Another key component of the session focused on EUROPASS-format, hospitality-specific CV development. Students worked on structuring their CVs to effectively present their education, skills, practical experience, and career objectives.

The Placement Team also introduced a “CV Red Flags” activity, challenging students to identify common mistakes that can weaken applications or lead to rejection during recruitment. The exercise highlighted the importance of accuracy, professional formatting, relevant information, and clear communication when applying for hospitality positions.

Understanding the Hospitality Job Market

The programme also included a briefing on market and salary awareness, giving students a broader understanding of employment trends, career opportunities, and compensation expectations within the hospitality sector.

The session provided students with practical tools to approach their careers with greater confidence and awareness, while helping them understand what employers expect from aspiring hospitality professionals.

Day 1 established a strong foundation for the programme by bringing together professional grooming, career planning, communication, CV development, and employment awareness.

Through initiatives such as these, COTHM Pakistan continues to strengthen the connection between education and employment, preparing students not only with technical hospitality knowledge but also with the professional skills and career awareness needed to compete in a dynamic industry.
