The National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) has unveiled a major urban transport initiative for Lahore, introducing the proposed “Purple Line Metro”, a modern rapid transit project designed to ease traffic congestion and provide fast, reliable, and international-standard travel facilities for citizens.
According to available details, the Purple Line Metro will span approximately 32 kilometres, connecting some of the city’s most important and high-density areas. The route is planned to begin from Bhatti Chowk, pass through Mall Road and Askari 10, and extend directly to the Allama Iqbal International Airport, offering a seamless and time-efficient travel corridor for daily commuters and air travelers.
The project is aimed at reducing traffic pressure on Lahore’s busiest roads while significantly cutting down travel time between the city centre and the airport. Officials and planning experts believe that the metro line will provide a modern, safe, and efficient public transport alternative, helping to ease long-standing congestion issues in the provincial capital.
Urban development specialists highlight that the Purple Line Metro is part of a broader vision to modernize Lahore’s public transport infrastructure through sustainable and high-capacity transit solutions. The collaboration between NESPAK and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority is expected to introduce improved connectivity, better commuter experience, and reduced dependency on private vehicles.
Experts further note that once implemented, the project could become a major milestone in Lahore’s transport history, contributing to economic productivity, environmental improvement, and enhanced urban mobility standards.
The initiative reflects Pakistan’s growing focus on smart urban planning and the development of integrated public transport systems aimed at creating more livable and efficient cities.
