The role of media in promoting tourism

The role of media in promoting tourism

by Hospitality Plus Chief Editor Ahmad Shafiq

Everything needs appreciation. Either it’s an individual effort or a collective venture, acknowledgement is the foremost motivation. In the present day world, media is the only tool which can expose and advertise everything to the world within a single blink of eye. This spread of information gets the attention of the relevant circles and the things become famous or notorious according to their outlook.

Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. Every country having even a minimum potential in the field of tourism is getting revenue from this side. But at the very same time, there is an issue of the positive propagation of this sector in the world. Media mostly covers the negative aspects of an activity taking the positive ones for granted. The same happens with tourism as well. Most of the times, we read newspapers and find stories about the accidents and bad experiences during expeditions. It hardly comes across us that a successful tourism or hospitality venture makes a headline to a newspaper or a national TV. This neglecting behaviour by the media quarters discourages the aspirants and demotivates them about the scope of this future oriented.

The role of media becomes very important in this scenario as it is the only source through which people gather information and decide about their future goals. It is the responsibility of media to highlight the positive image of this sector at every forum. Either it’s print media or electronic one, any achievement in the field of hospitality and tourism should be covered and highlighted in a good way. It would not only present a good image of the industry but would also play an important role in strengthening the economic aspects of the countries.
